Benefit Trust-Logos Round 1
The following logo concepts are intended to reflect the professionalism, stability, and forward-looking work of the Spokane Fire Fighters Benefit Trust. While the original mark functioned as an extension of Local 29’s union logo, the Trust has grown into a distinct organization with a unique and vital role supporting members and their families. Its visual identity should reflect that evolution.
These concepts explore a more refined and distinctive look—honoring the fire service while communicating care, protection, and long-term security. A consistent blue palette is used throughout, aligning with the website and newsletter communications and reinforcing associations with healthcare, strength, loyalty, and trust.
Please see the logo designs and their rationale explanations below.

1. Bridge and Red Maltese Cross
This logo draws inspiration from Spokane’s Monroe Street Bridge, using it as a powerful metaphor for the role of the Trust. Just as the bridge connects two sides of the river, the Trust connects fire fighter service to the healthcare and financial protections earned through that service. It represents stability, structure, and long-term support—core principles of the Trust.
The red Maltese cross integrated into the “O” in SPOKANE clearly signals the fire service and reinforces that the Trust is rooted in and supported by the union. The blue band anchoring “Benefit Trust” at the base maintains continuity with the current logo while grounding the mark in a calm, dependable tone.
Together, the elements communicate local pride, strength, and a steady path of support for Spokane fire fighters.

2. Bridge with River and Landscape
This concept builds on the Monroe Street Bridge inspiration by adding the river and surrounding landscape, reinforcing Spokane pride and a strong sense of place. The flowing river introduces movement, symbolizing continuity and the ongoing support members rely on throughout their careers and into retirement.
The brighter blue palette and bolder illustration give the logo energy while maintaining a calm, healthcare-forward tone. The Maltese cross remains the “O” in SPOKANE, seamlessly integrating fire service identity into the wordmark. Distinct typography for Fire Fighters and Benefit Trust creates clear hierarchy and balance, reflecting both strength and care.

3. Circular Logo with Maltese Cross
This concept nods to the current union logo, using a clean circular format with the Maltese cross as the foundation and SPOKANE centered prominently across the middle. The circular shape reinforces unity and continuity, while keeping the design simple and strong.
In the upper quadrant of the cross, a subtle family icon represents the Trust’s role in protecting both fire fighters and their loved ones. The red cross is clearly a nod to the Local 29 union logo.

4. Healthy People Flame
This concept transforms the familiar symbol of flame into something uplifting and aspirational. Rather than representing danger, the blue-toned flames suggest vitality, strength, and forward motion. Within the forms, two abstract figures emerge—rising together—symbolizing support, partnership, and the Trust’s role in standing alongside fire fighters and their families.
The fluid, sculptural style creates a distinctive and memorable mark that feels modern while still rooted in the fire service. The circular text at the base grounds the movement above, reading clearly and cohesively as a single thought. Together, the elements communicate energy, protection, and a shared path forward.
