Color considerations and apparel concepts
I know it’s been difficult to settle on a color direction, so I created a few apparel concepts to show how each palette might work in the real world. I’ve intentionally shown the logos on black, charcoal, and other dark apparel. Research into industrial workwear suggests that people working in environments where clothing is more likely to become soiled tend to value darker, soil-concealing colors. For machinists and fabricators working around oil, grease, metal dust, and other shop materials, darker apparel also has a practical advantage: it stays looking presentable longer throughout the workday.
Seeing the two palettes in this context highlights an important difference. The orange and lighter blue create stronger contrast against black, charcoal, and dark navy, allowing the mark to stand out clearly across a wider range of apparel. The legacy red and darker blue create a more subdued effect, particularly on charcoal and navy. They can work well against black, but may offer fewer options when choosing apparel colors.
This doesn’t necessarily make one palette the right choice, but it does give us another practical consideration: how flexible each color system will be beyond the logo itself. Apparel is one place where that difference becomes especially visible.
